A review of Photobiomodulation research from the past 50 years validates the many health benefits of red light therapy. These benefits are so profound that researchers have even compared us to plants who use light for photosynthesis. ‘Human solar panels’ is another analogy used to describe how human beings have the capability to harness the power of the light. Unfortunately, in this day and age we are very seldom outdoors, exposed to natural light. In fact, the average office worker spends 94% of their time indoors. Living this way deprives our cells of the beneficial light, given by nature, to help us perform optimally. For these reasons, products have now been developed to specifically emit the same Red and near infrared (NIR) light that the sun emits through specialised LEDs. These devices can supplement our bodies with lost light exposure, just as vitamins supplement our diets from ‘lost’ nutrients.
